RESOURCES

The Elements of Art and Principles of Design are important for several reasons. First, and most importantly, a person can't create art without utilizing at least a few of them.  Secondly, knowing what the elements of art are enables us to: describe what an artist has done; analyze what is going on in a particular piece and to communicate our thoughts and findings using a common language. PROJECTS AND SKETCHBOOK ASSIGNMENT

ASSIGNMENT #1
PROJECT: ABOUT ME Polaroid Project​ ​.
Here are the CORE COMPETENCIES that students will develop through the Elements of Art and Principles of Design Accordion Book project:

PERSONAL AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
  • Awareness and Responsibility involves understanding the connections between my personal and social behaviours.
  • Awareness, understanding, and appreciation of connections among people, including between myself, my family and my community.
CURRICULAR COMPETENCIES:
  • I will create an artistic work that demonstrates personal context and identity exploration.
  • I will use symbols and metaphors to represent my ideas and perspective.

Here are the CURRICULAR COMPETENCIES that students will develop through the Elements of Art and Principles of Design Accordion Book project:
EXPLORING AND CREATING
  • Engage in artistic exploration and experimentation: Students will explore various artistic techniques and materials to create their project.
REASONING AND REFLECTING
  • Develop and refine ideas, processes, and technical skills: Students will refine their artistic skills and processes as they work on each polaroid of their project.
 CONNECTING AND EXPANDING
  • Create artistic works to reflect personal contexts: Students will explore how their chosen images and artistic choices reflect their personal identity.
ASSIGNMENT #2
SKETCHBOOK: Elements and Principles Accordion Book
Here are the CORE COMPETENCIES that students will develop through the Elements of Art and Principles of Design Accordion Book project:
  • CREATIVE THINKING- Generating Ideas: Students brainstorm and plan their accordion book, choosing an image and deciding how to represent each element and principle.
  • CRITICAL THINKING- Analyzing and Evaluating: Students analyze how different elements and principles can be applied to their repeated image and evaluate the effectiveness of their artistic choices.
  • COMMUNICATION- Expressing and Presenting: Students articulate their artistic process and choices during the presentation of their accordion book.
  • PERSONAL AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY- Self-Regulation: Students manage their time and materials effectively to complete the project.
Here are the CURRICULAR COMPETENCIES that students will develop through the Elements of Art and Principles of Design Accordion Book project:
  • EXPLORING AND CREATING- Create artistic works using sensory inspiration, imagination, and inquiry: They will use their chosen image to experiment with different elements and principles, fostering creativity and inquiry.
  • REASONING AND REFLECTING- Develop and refine ideas, processes, and technical skills: Students will refine their artistic skills and processes as they work on each page of their accordion book.
  • COMMUNICATING AND DOCUMENTING- Document, share, and appreciate artistic works: They will present their completed accordion books to the class, sharing their creative journey and appreciating their peers’ work.
