ABOUT ME
As a member of Surrey Schools, I would like to humbly acknowledge that we live, work, play and engage in the act of education on the stolen, unceded and traditional shared territories of the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓-speaking q̓əc̓iy̓ (Katzie) and q̓wa:n̓ƛ̕ən̓ (Kwantlen) Coast Salish peoples and the North Straits Salish-speaking Semiahmoo Coast Salish peoples.
I'm currently working for the Surrey School District (British Columbia, Canada) as an Art Teacher and Fine Arts Department Head at École Salish Secondary (since 2018) where I teach students ranging from Grades 8 to 12. I've also taught at Frank Hurt Secondary for 16 years and North Surrey Secondary for a year prior to that. I'm currently the Surrey Art Teachers Association President and BC Art Teacher’s Association Graduation Curriculum Rep. On October 23rd 2020, I was awarded Art Educator of the Year (Graduation Years) by the BC Art Teacher's Association.
For my undergraduate studies I attended the University of Fraser Valley completing with a Diploma in Visual Arts. I then continued my education at Simon Fraser University completing my Bachelor of Fine Arts with a focus in Contemporary Arts. I attended the University of British Columbia for my post-graduate studies. I completed a Bachelor of Education with a focus in Art Education. After working as a teacher for 5 years, I received a Masters of Education from the University of British Columbia.
My favourite activities outside of school are travelling, photography, reading, painting, spending time with my husband, son and friends.
I think being an Art Teacher is the best job in the world! It is very rewarding to see my students create new things and reach new heights. In my class I am always looking for students who are trying new things, and most importantly, trying their best!!
